New Tenants Move Into Eco-Friendly Council Homes In Middlecroft

Construction News Image
Tenants are now settling into newly built, energy-efficient council homes in Middlecroft, as Chesterfield Borough Council completes the latest phase of its housing development programme.

Two three-bedroom houses on Ringwood Avenue have been handed over to their new occupants, while work has also finished on two two-bedroom bungalows at Court Place. These will be allocated to residents from the council’s housing register in the coming weeks.

All the properties have been designed to meet the highest environmental standards, achieving an A-rated Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). They are equipped with air source heat pumps to provide hot water and underfloor heating, eliminating the need for traditional gas boilers.

In addition, solar panels have been installed on each property, designed to generate more energy than the homes are expected to consume.

The new bungalows have been built with accessibility in mind, offering level access and space for the future installation of lifts and ceiling hoists. This futureproofing ensures that residents can continue living independently even if their mobility needs change.

Councillor Jean Innes, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for housing, said: "We're really pleased to see these properties being completed so that tenants can enjoy their new homes.

"Our contractors, Fortem Solutions Ltd continue to make great progress and we’re looking forward to welcoming more tenants to new properties over the coming months.

"When planning for these new build homes, we want to ensure that we can provide homes that meet the needs of our tenants both now and in the future – providing homes for life. That’s why we've designed these bungalows in a way that adaptations, such as installing lifts and hoists, can be installed easily should they be needed in the future which ensures people can live independently in their homes for longer."
