Morgan Sindall Construction's Southern Home Counties team has officially handed over the newly completed Crawley Innovation Centre to Crawley Borough Council (CBC).
The transformation of the former TUI travel house into a cutting-edge innovation, economic and technology hub drew local leaders, business groups and future tenants to the site last month. Guests toured the 2,500 sq m facility, which now features six workshops, 23 private offices, flexible co-working areas, a business networking hub, desk hire zones and a café. Tenants including Naked Energy and Sweetinburgh & Windsor are due to move in this summer.
Delivered through the SCAPE Construction framework, the project included a major interior overhaul and significant upgrades to the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. The building is now positioned as a key driver of Crawley’s 2022–2037 economic recovery plan, which seeks to attract high-tech businesses, support clean energy, and create jobs and investment opportunities in the local area.
Situated within the Manor Royal Business District, the centre is designed to support innovation, manufacturing, and enterprise, particularly among small and medium-sized businesses, while strengthening Crawley's post-pandemic economic resilience.
In keeping with Morgan Sindall's Intelligent Solutions approach, sustainability was a central focus. Working with recycling specialists Encore, the team ensured 100% of construction waste was either reused or recycled. Their efforts helped deliver a carbon reduction of over 110 tonnes—the equivalent of heating 37 homes for a year.
The project also delivered strong social value outcomes, with 86 apprentice weeks, nearly £1 million spent through the local supply chain (80% with SMEs), and 4 full-time equivalent jobs created. A Considerate Constructors Scheme score of 44 out of 45 reflects the project's commitment to high community and environmental standards.
Design and delivery partners included Miller Bourne Architects, Stephen Wilson Partnership (structural and civil engineering), Delta Green (environmental design), and Yellow Wren (interiors).
Guy Hannell, Area Director for Morgan Sindall Construction in the Southern Home Counties, said: "It's been a pleasure to work alongside Crawley Borough Council and SCAPE to deliver this Innovation Centre to the community. It’s admirable to see the commitment that Crawley Borough Council has to boosting the town’s economy, creating jobs and opportunities for innovative output. To be part of that legacy brings us great pride.
"We're eager to seeing the research and development that comes out of Crawley as a result of the centre, and look forward to welcoming in the tenants who will be making this facility their new home."
