Latimer, the development arm of Clarion Housing Group, has officially broken ground on its flagship northern site, Dyecoats, marking a major milestone in one of the most significant regeneration projects in Leeds.
The scheme will deliver more than 1,600 new homes and generate up to £300 million in social value throughout the life of the development.
The launch of building works was celebrated on Friday 25 April, with senior figures from Latimer joined on site by Alex Sobel, MP for Leeds Central and Headingley, West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin, Leeds City Council Leader Cllr James Lewis, and representatives from Homes England, charity partner St George’s Crypt, and construction partner GRAHAM.
With foundation work already underway, Phase 1 of the project will deliver 434 homes, including 100 for social rent and 138 for shared ownership. The full development will also feature a new food hall, extensive public spaces with riverfront access, and a north-south pedestrian link across the River Aire, contributing to the creation of a vibrant city centre neighbourhood.
Stephen Van den Hoek, Regional Director at GRAHAM, said: "We're proud to be working alongside Latimer to bring the Dyecoats vision to life. This is a development that not only delivers high-quality, sustainable housing but also puts social value and long-term community benefit at its core. It’s a privilege to be part of a project with such far-reaching impact."
The homes at Dyecoats will be built to meet Future Homes Standards, aiming for net zero carbon in operation. All properties will have an EPC rating of B or higher.
