Cutting Construction Casualties
The effective management of risk on construction sites is central to providing a safe and healthy workplace.
Failing to carry out risk assessments and draw up method statements, or carrying them out inadequately, can have serious consequences for employers, employees and the general public and can result in accidents and heavy fines. To support house-builders in managing these risks, NHBC is launching a new open course - Risk Assessments and Method Statements. This course covers the key health and safety aspects to be considered when assessing risks and preparing method statements to minimise dangers for employees and the public.
NHBC's Health and Safety Services Manager Simon Mantle said: "This NHBC course is ideal for anyone who needs to carry out risk assessments and draft or review method statements on construction sites. A risk assessment does not need to be complicated and is often a matter of applying informed common sense.
"There is often a correlation between sites which have a higher incidence of accidents and those which have a lack of, or inadequate risk assessments and method statements. This course provides guidance on carrying out, reviewing and ultimately communicating risk assessments and method statements which, done effectively, will lead to a safer workplace."
This tutorial-based course will be led by NHBC's health and safety qualified trainers, all of whom have extensive experience of managing risks within the house-building industry.
