Cumbernauld-based Strategic Team Group, one of the UK's fastest growing suppliers of building and property solutions, has closed the door on the last property - as its £1/2m project to assist Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing in achieving the Government's 'decent homes' standard has finally been completed.
The 27-week project on behalf of Kirklees Council saw Strategic Team Group assigned to carry out internal refurbishment and remodelling works to Huddersfield-based sheltered housing scheme, Robertown Grange. Designed for over 60s only, Robertown Grange consists of 20 one bedroom sheltered flats. The Grange also homes a number of communal facilities for residents to use including a lounge and kitchen.
Strategic Team Group delivered full project management services to enable existing facilities to be upgraded ahead of the agreed deadline for Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing. Kitchens, bathrooms and hall ways were all refurbished and improved to bring them into line with achieving the Government's 2010 target for delivering homes that are of an acceptable, 'decent' standard. In addition, significant alterations were made to the communal WC area and kitchen, a new door entry system was installed and a 'buggy park' was introduced in direct response to residents needs.
The involvement of tenants was encouraged throughout and STG selected the project to launch its new Customer Care Scheme. Tenants each received a pre-work letter informing them of what to expect, a customer care pack on work commencing with useful information and contact numbers and a thank you postcard, survey and £10 capital bond voucher on completion.
Charles Tweed, Business Development Director at STG, said: “When working in this sector in particular it is important to remember that the properties you are dealing with are more than just buildings, they are homes. We launched the Customer Care Scheme because we respect this and want tenants to feel confident, reassured and looked after – and the results have been very positive.”
