Ten Winners In Builders’ Scottish Awards

Ten supplier and sub-contractor companies have been recognised in McCarthy & Stone’s Scottish annual awards for their contribution to the retirement builders’ developments throughout the region.

Manufacturer of the Year for 2006 is H & R Johnston Tiles Ltd from Stoke-on-Trent. A first-time winner in the Scottish scheme, they manufacture ceramic wall tiles which McCarthy & Stone has been using in its developments for several years.

In the National Supplier of the Year category, George Boyd won Gold for ironmongery; Kelvin Bedrooms won Silver for wardrobe doors, vanity units and bath panels; and Tarmac Topfloor won Bronze for concrete stairs.

In the Regional Supplier of the Year category, Tri-Fix Fasteners from North Lanarkshire won Gold for supplying all types of fixings and mastic. Skene Concrete Products from Fife won Silver for supplying concrete blocks and bricks; and Centurion Signs from East Kilbride won Bronze for supplying site signage.

In the final category, Regional Subcontractor of the Year, the Gold winner was Ryan Construction from Stranraer for bricklaying. Ian Gracie from Lockerbie won Silver for supplying and fitting external rendering. Bison Concrete from Uddingston and Falkirk won Bronze for hollowcore floor beams.

Ian Gracie was also the inaugural winner of McCarthy & Stone’s Environmental Award.

The awards ceremony took place at Cawder Golf Club near Glasgow and presentations were made by Steve Wiseman, regional managing director for McCarthy & Stone.

Regional buyer for Scotland Willie Bell said: “Our annual awards have become quite an event in the construction industry’s calendar. We judge our suppliers and subcontractors on ten categories including quality, cost, service and paperwork. Now our regional winners in Scotland will be put forward for our UK-wide awards.”
