Dawn Construction Hands Over Keys To Cumbernauld Centre
Dawn Construction, one of Scotland’s leading independent construction and property developers handed over the keys to the Antonine Centre in Cumbernauld following completion of the £40m project.
Alan Russell, Project Manager from Dawn Construction, met with Karen Johnston from London and Regional, who are developing the site, to mark the completion of the job and officially handover the building.
The new shopping centre, a 350,000 sq ft space, comprises 40 retail units of varying sizes and a large unit at the eastern end of the site, now occupied by anchor tenant Dunnnes Stores.
The project which lasted a total of 68 weeks also involved the demolition of pedestrian walkways and small buildings attached to the existing shopping centre as well as the construction of two pedestrian links, car parking to cater for over 3,000 cars and landscaping around the building.
Alan Russell, Dawn Construction project manager for the Antonine project commented: "I am delighted with the outcome of the project. All the deadlines were met and from user feedback the new site has been received particularly well.
"The site is within a really busy area of the town as it was directly adjacent to the existing shopping area however the job was completed to the highest standard with minimal disruption to the public."
Ray Eve, managing director of Dawn Construction, added: "Dawn Construction was involved with the design team in the creation of the Antonine Centre for around two years before the construction work actually started on-site, inputting our expertise in design, construction and cost management gained from many years of experience in creating top-end retail and shopping environments.
"The build, in common with any new development of this type, has not been without its obstacles, but I’m pleased that Dawn Construction’s team has managed to overcome these and was able to deliver the project on time.
"The new shopping centre will certainly strengthen the economy of Cumbernauld, not only by creating jobs, but by keeping consumer spend in the town, and Dawn Construction is pleased to have played a part in the town’s regeneration plans."
