Forth Bridge Closes For Week-Long Repair Work
The Forth Rail Bridge is to close for one week while essential repair work is carried out.
Thousands of commuters will face disruption as engineers carry out repair work at Inverkeithing junction as part of a £4 million investment in Fife’s rail infrastructure.
Until the bridge reopens on Monday 30 July, trains from Edinburgh to Dundee and Aberdeen are being diverted through Stirling and Perth, while services to Fife are being replaced by busses.
Network Rail have revealed they have suspended services so engineers can renew a set of points and carry out general maintenance.
David Simpson, Network Rail Route Director, said: “This investment at Inverkeithing junction is essential to accommodate the predicted growth in demand for rail transport in Fife.
“Network Rail is ambitious to grow the railway in Scotland and this work will enhance performance for both passenger and freight trains.”
He continued: “There is a huge amount of work involved in this upgrade and it will mean disruption to train services, but we have done everything possible to reduce the inconvenience to passengers.”
The work has been timed to coincide with the Fife trade holiday and the two-week long summer closure of Longannet Power Station to minimise disruption.
