Facelift For Hamilton House

Homeless young people in the Bromsgrove District can look forward to a higher standard of accommodation.

Cabinet Members have agreed to modernise Hamilton House – a hostel for homeless young people between the ages of 16-25.

They agreed to enter into a new relationship with a housing association so that the hostel, in York Road, Sidemoor, can be given a major facelift.

Council Leader, Councillor Roger Hollingworth, said: “The hostel is considered inappropriate for today’s requirements and will be converted into a smaller number of self-contained flats instead of the existing units. The changes will also mean accommodation will be both temporary and permanent which will benefit the youngsters themselves and the community.

“The facelift will enable us to up-date and extend the accommodation for homeless young people across the District to ensure it is more suitable for their present needs.

“Homelessness among young people is a problem nationwide, including Bromsgrove, and the needs of the homeless are changing to face the challenges of today’s society.

“We are fully aware of these changing needs and that is why we are changing the way we address the situation. We will make every effort to extend additional housing opportunities to address the national housing crisis,” he added.
