ITT Flygt Takes Waste Water High Road

ITT Flygt pumps are proving star performers at a £7 million waste water treatment works in the Scottish Highlands.

The pumping specialist’s N Pump range is being used in three roles at Scottish Water’s new Aviemore treatment works. It receives and treats sewage from homes in the area, and can handle waste water from more than 11,00 people.

ITT Flygt’s patented N Pump technology is used to pump imported sludges, feed sequential batch reactor (SBR) sewage treatment technology, and for sludge mixing.

The imported sludge pumping is done using pumps from the NP3127 range, featuring 421 impellers and 4.7kW electric motors. Those feeding the SBRs are NP3153s with 410 impellers and 13.5kW drives. NP3153s with 433 impellers and 9.0kW motors are used for sludge mixing.

ITT Flygt sludge market manager Tony Price said: "The trouble-free operation of the N Pumps on this site shows how effective they are when handling sludges with dry solids content of up to eight per cent.

"Fewer spares, less power use and reduced downtime all contribute to a solution that offers true lifecycle cost savings when compared to other centrifugal and positive displacement sludge pumps."
