Support Services Company Scoops Top Scottish Training Award
MITIE’s engineering services division has scooped the top prize in the Scottish Edge Awards 2007, which recognise organisations offering practical-learning opportunities for young people.
The prize comes with a grant of £12,000 for MITIE to invest in future training plans.
MITIE will go on to compete against other regional winners for the chance to win the national Edge Business Award, and a grant of £50,000.
Judges were impressed by the company’s commitment to recruiting young apprentices into all areas of the business and for its support of local college students. The company has been so valuable to Cardonald College of Further Education that the institution has renamed its electrical testing facility the MITIE Lab.
Billy Mitchell, Managing Director of MITIE’s engineering services division in Scotland, will travel to a glittering awards ceremony in London in November to collect the award: “MITIE is delighted to be recognised for its drive to offer practical learning opportunities for young people.
"MITIE believes it is important for young people to combine academic qualifications with business based skills, which is why our apprentices spend time working in all areas of the business as well as learning theory at colleges and universities.
"The prize money will be spent setting up an on-the-job coaching scheme for front line supervisors and sponsoring our apprentices through specialist courses."
