FM Announce Plans For New Western Harbour Project
Proposals for a new development at Western Harbour are now proceeding through consultation, following validation of FM Homes' planning application.
Plans for the development, their second within the area, comprise 109 apartments and 13 townhouses.
Western Harbour has seen tremendous redevelopment over the last 25 years. The area is part of a large scale and complex regeneration project, converting former derelict docklands into desirable waterfront living space.
Now home to iconic buildings such as the Scottish Executive Victoria Quay offices, prestigious Malmaison Hotel and multi-million pound Ocean Terminal retail centre; Western Harbour has also seen a striking increase in popularity due to the social scene offered by The Shore.
Counsellor Tom Buchanan, Convenor of Economic Development Committee for the City of Edinburgh Council said: "Edinburgh's Waterfront is one of the largest urban regeneration projects in Scotland and one of this city's most important growth areas, the opportunities it presents for the city are numerous. Regeneration at Western Harbour will help deliver maximum economic, social and environmental benefits for the local area as well as for the Edinburgh and the wider city region.â€
The master plan for the Western Harbour, led by Forth Ports PLC, will see the creation of 3000 residential units, plus commercial, retail and public space over an expanse of 100 acres. The aim is to develop desirable spaces from disused brownfield sites and ultimately reconnect Western Harbour to the City of Edinburgh, whilst maintaining its own unique identity.
