Taylor Wimpey, the UK’s largest homebuilder, has appointed Willie McDermott as director and general manager for the Bryant West Scotland region. Mr McDermott will establish a new office for the strengthened team, and will lead the company as it aims to consolidate and grow its position in the west of Scotland.
Willie will report to Andy Wyles, the divisional managing director for Taylor Wimpey in Scotland.
Taylor Wimpey plc was formed in July 2007 following the merger of Taylor Woodrow plc and George Wimpey plc. The holding company will retain both the Bryant Homes and George Wimpey brands. It will also continue to develop the G2 brand, which provides high quality apartments exclusively for first-time buyers from £60,000.
Willie joined Bryant in 1998 as Land Manager before his appointment to managing director for the Bryant West Scotland region. His extensive knowledge of the west of Scotland, the market, and indeed the industry give him a unique insight into the strategic land and business opportunities that exist throughout the west coast of Scotland. This leaves him well-placed to deliver the company’s projected growth from 270 homes in 2007 to approximately 500 homes annually by 2009.
The new Bryant West Scotland operation is already well on-course to begin its strategic growth plan, as Willie McDermott commented: "We have already identified an office location in the west of Scotland that sits within the heart of our operational area. It will allow us to reinforce the Bryant brand back in the west of Scotland and position us closer to our operational developments. There are already a number of strong land opportunities coming up and we’re actively looking to secure these to push the business forward."
