NHBC Launches Timber Frame Construction Course

As builders and developers looking to respond to the Government's 2016 zero carbon target are considering timber frame construction as one way of delivering more sustainable homes The National House-Building Council (NHBC) has launched a training course addressing the issues of this construction method.

The new one-day training course is designed to meet the needs of managers overseeing timber frame projects and will be run at locations across the country in January and February 2008.

NHBC's Managing Timber Frame Construction course aims to provide site-based managers with the knowledge to effectively manage timber frame projects up to four-storeys in height.

The course will help give delegates an understanding of construction best practice, the appropriate NHBC Standards and the different management techniques which are needed in timber frame construction.

Rob Lockey, NHBC's Training Services Manager, said: "Timber frame is a tried and tested method of construction for new homes but is different from traditional masonry construction. This difference means that site-based managers will need technical knowledge of design criteria which impact on construction alongside an understanding what that can go wrong so they know where to focus their attention."
