BP’s new £45m Exploration and Production headquarters in Aberdeen features the latest in sustainable building technology including a Stormsaver rainwater harvesting system.
Stormsaver commissioned its bespoke rainwater harvesting system at the three storey office development earlier this month bringing the five figure contract to a successful conclusion.
The system, which captures rainfall from the building’s 7,294m2 roof, filters it and integrates it into the WCs, will save BP over £12,000 per year as a result of reduced mains water consumption says Stormsaver.
BP specified the inclusion of rainwater harvesting from the very beginning for the premises which will become the new North Sea Headquarters.
“We worked Bailey’s to develop a specification for rainwater harvesting, which was based on the Stormsaver’s system,” said Stormsaver Director Lisa Farnsworth. “We’d undertaken several projects with them before but, this was the first time we delivered direct to them instead of to site. Bailey Offsite pre-fabricated the drainage in Bradford so that it could be delivered to site in a pre-assembled, plug in unit.”
Andrew Watson at Bailey’s had no hesitation in selecting Stormsaver for the prestigious BP contract. “Bailey’s acted as the mechanical and electrical contractors at Kingston University, Doncaster Education City and Oldham Library and worked well with Stormsaver on all those projects. It was because of our successful partnership on those projects that we knew Stormsaver would be ideal for BP.”
The BP Aberdeen contract and the supply of the 3 tank, 172,000 litre system, represents a milestone for the rainwater harvesting specialists. “This was the first time since we established in the company in 2003 That a multi-national, blue chip company committed to use a Stormsaver system on such a large scale,” explains Lisa. “At over 7,000m2 the roof area is significantly high and will enable BP to make huge savings on the amount of water they draw from the public supply. We are delighted to be able to include a company of the size and stature of BP on our client list.”
