Landlords Scheme Signs Up 100th Member

A scheme set up to help landlords improve housing for tenants has signed up its 100th member. The Landlords' Accreditation Scheme, run by West Dorset District Council, is going from strength to strength and recently signed up member Joe Meier.

Mr Meier, of Stockwood Lettings and Property Management, explained why he joined the free scheme, which was judged 'excellent' by independent audit commission inspectors.

"Property letting has many rules and regulations, and the legislation is constantly being updated in order to protect both landlords and tenants," Mr Meier said. "I am delighted to be a member of the accreditation scheme and find great merit in the support and advice which it proves the letting industry."

Mr Meier launched his new business in June having previously worked in the industry. The company deals with residential lettings as well as commercial storage units, grazing and equestrian holdings.

District council Chairman Ronald Coatsworth said: "I've been involved with the district council's scheme for landlords from the start so I’m delighted to see how well it is doing. It has made more properties available for rent and helps landlords improve their properties.

"Any landlords interested in joining up can get more information by calling: 01305 251010."

Member's of the Landlords' Accreditation Scheme receive a newsletter called Landlords' Focus, get invitations to free seminars on topical housing matters and gain contact with other landlords.

Marcus Scrace, Scheme Chairman said: "I am pleased that the scheme is doing extremely well. The fact that we have now got 100 accredited members is testament to its success.

"Feedback shows that our members, who have anything from one to 100 houses, find it useful. It encourages us all to keep up standards and helps us keep abreast with new regulations."
