RENEW Northwest is delighted to announce a doubling of its industry coverage in its programme supporting pan-professional continuing professional development (CPD) for sustainable communities in the Northwest.
A further eight organisations have signed a memorandum of understanding which commits to providing individual members with better access to resources, shared learning and the means to continuously develop their generic skills.
The programme, launched in July 2006 by RENEW Northwest, already has eight professional bodies on board. All 16 organisations are committed to working across professions to foster the skills, behaviour and knowledge identified as essential to the success of sustainable communities by the Egan Task Force report. These include leadership, partnership working, analysis and evaluation, and the promotion of multi-disciplinary teams.
The eight organisations committing to the initiative in this second phase are the Association of Building Engineers, Centre for Construction Innovation, Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologies, Chartered Institute of Building, Chartered Institute of Housing, Institution of Structural Engineers, University of Salford and the Institution of Highways and Transportation.
Phil Barton, director at RENEW Northwest, said: "We are very pleased to welcome eight more of the region’s professional institutes to this significant commitment to work together to build inter-disciplinary skills and improve placemaking in the Northwest.
"This is a major step in bringing the full range of regeneration players together, reducing industry fragmentation so that the Northwest will be one of the most skilled professional regeneration communities in Europe."
There are at least 15,000 people directly employed in regeneration in the Northwest, in addition to many thousands employed in related activity such as economic development, construction and health.
RENEW Northwest maintains a dedicated gateway portal service for the region to access information about delivering sustainable communities, through its website at: www.RENEW.co.uk.
