Forres and Bo'ness Receive £17m For Flood Defence

Flood defences to the value of £17 million have been announced as part of the £42 million plans by the Scottish Government to limit future flood damage.

The proposals will protect the notoriously flood prone areas of Forres and and Bo'ness. £13.5 million will go to Forres to protect it from the banks of the Burn of Mosset, and £3.6 million has been allocated to Bo'ness.

Minister for Environment Michael Russell said: "Without this scheme, the flood damage losses in Forres could exceed £43 million over the next 50 years. This scheme delivers a high level of protection as well as value for money. This funding will enable Moray Council to award the construction contract to take this work forward.

He added: "The Scottish Government is committed to protecting vulnerable communities from the threat of flooding by supporting local authorities' efforts to reduce flood risk."
