Scottish Assembly Looks To Expand Infrastructure

The Scottish Government has set its targets on re-invigorating the Scottish infrastructure as a way of allowing "Scotland to flourish."

In an announcement of a new government Economic Strategy plan, given at Glasgow University, Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond, detailed ambitious plans to bolster the Scottish economy and lay foundations for sustainable economic growth.

Mr Salmond said: "Scotland's economy has suffered from decades of mediocrity. Over the last 30 years, Scotland's growth has averaged just 1.8 per cent - around a half of the average rate of growth for small European countries. And over the last 25 years, this same figure can be compared to the UK's growth rate of 2.3 per cent. Scotland deserves better."

Finance Minister John Swinney however, focused on the methods of achieving the government’s goals, identifying infrastructure improvement as an important factor in the plan.

He said: "By aligning investment in learning and skills, infrastructure and place, with a supportive business environment and an effective government we can ensure economic growth is shared fairly among the people of Scotland, by reducing income and regional inequalities and ensuring that future generations can enjoy better quality of life too."
