Public Meeting Called To Discuss Cardiff's Eastern Leisure Centre Site

A public meeting to discuss the current proposals for the Eastern Leisure Centre site, Cardiff, will be held on Thursday, November 29 at 6pm.

The Council is currently consulting on proposals to close Llanrumney and Rumney High Schools and co-locate a new school with Eastern Leisure Centre incorporating community leisure facilities and developing further existing community facilities to include artificial and grass pitches plus youth centre facilities.

Statutory public meetings have already been arranged to discuss the educational considerations of the proposals at Llanrumney and Rumney High Schools. These meetings will take place for Rumney High and Feeder Schools at Rumney High at 6pm on November 15 and for Llanrumney High and Feeder schools at Llanrumney High at 6pm on November 19.

This additional meeting will be for the public to hear about plans for the new leisure provision and to air their views and will take place on November 29 at 6pm at Eastern Leisure Centre.

Welsh Executive Member for Education and Lifelong Learning Bill Kelloway said: "We are holding this additional meeting specifically for those who wish to ask questions about the proposals we have for Eastern Leisure Centre and what the proposals would mean for the open space.

"We would ask people who have concerns about the proposal in relation to the Eastern Leisure centre to attend this meeting as the other meetings are aimed at explaining and answering questions as to what these proposals mean for the schools of Llanrumney and Rumney. We are keen to ensure that everyone has a chance to make their views known and would appreciate the help of the community to make this happen."

The consultation process runs from November 5 to December 21 with a series of exhibitions, drop-in sessions and leaflets planned to inform those directly affected by the proposals. Information will be available on the Council's website and in the Council's monthly newspaper Capital Times.
