The National Heritage of Roofers List is currently open to applications from slating and tiling roofing contractors.
Applicants will be vetted by the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC), based on evidence of work satisfactorily carried out on any of the 24 heritage roofing skills identified in a heritage roofing registrar formulated by NFRC in conjunction with national heritage organisations.
English Heritage, Cadw Welsh Historic Monuments, Environment and Heritage Service for Northern Ireland, and National Heritage Training Group have welcomed and strongly supported the development of the National Heritage Roofers List.
Discussions are currently underway with Historic Scotland to also include Scotland.
Due to variations in heritage roofing across the UK, applicants are only required to give evidence of competence for the heritage roofing types that they specialise in. Applicants are also welcome to give details of specialised and local roofing types not identified on NFRC’s heritage roofing registrar.
A responsible person from each applicant is also to be identified as either a heritage roof master or heritage craft roofer based on their experience and capabilities in advising and controlling all aspects of historic and technical design, and skilled vernacular workmanship.
To receive an application form or for further information, please contact NFRC on 0207 638 7663 or email: info@nfrc.co.uk.
