New Station Opens For Business At Llanharan

After a gap of over 40 years passenger trains are once again stopping at Llanharan - with completion of Phase One of a new £4.3 million station funded by the Welsh Assembly Government.

The new station has been built to restore access to an important main line service for the people of Llanharan and is part of a plan to implement a 21st Century rail service for Wales, and develop a first class integrated transport system vital for a vibrant Welsh economy.

Mr Jones, Minister for the Economy and Transport, said: "The Welsh Assembly Government has been pleased to fund this truly partnership project, and may I congratulate our partners on the work they have carried out on this £4.3 million pound project to reinstate Llanharan Station for the local community.

"I am particularly pleased this new service is open in time for Christmas, giving the people of Llanharan and the surrounding area direct access to the UK and European rail network via the South Wales mainline and look forward to opening the completed station early next year."

Arriva Trains Wales commercial director Mike Bagshaw said: "Arriva Trains Wales is delighted that we will be able to offer an additional stop to serve the communities in and around Llanharan in time for the Christmas shopping period. We are sure that this station will become a well used commuter stop in the years to come."
