Dean & Dyball Secures Olympic Sailing Venue Contract

Hampshire-based construction and development company Dean & Dyball has won a contract to build sailing facilities at Weymouth and Portland for the 2012 Olympic Games.

The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) chose the contractor ahead of rival bids from companies including Birse, Carillion, Edmund Nuttall and Raymond Brown.

Dean & Dyball already has experience of working at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) after it built facilities there in 2004.

As part of the 2012 project, the company will construct a new permanent 150m slipway; a new race-boat parking area; new race-boat lifting facilities and new race-boat moorings, to be sheltered by a wave-protection structure.

Construction is due to start on site in spring, and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.

ODA chief executive David Higgins said: "The award of this contract is another key step towards ensuring Weymouth and Portland is one of the first venues ready for 2012.

"Awarding this contract to a south-coast based company will be an added boost to the local economy and Dean & Dyball’s previous work on site makes them ideally placed to deliver these enhanced sailing facilities for 2012," he added.
