Midlands Bridge Repair Scheme Will Improve Safety
A scheme to repair a bridge in the East Midlands is due to start on Monday 14 January 2008 until March. The Selston and Kirkby Bridge carries the B6018 Park Lane over the M1, approximately two kilometres north of junction 27 in Nottinghamshire.
The work, which will not affect M1 traffic, involves stripping the existing surfacing and waterproofing of the bridge deck, applying new waterproofing, resurfacing the carriageway and verges, renewing the bridge expansion joints and improving the safety fencing.
The work will take place between 8am and 6pm Monday to Saturday, with occasional overnight and Sunday working.
A 24-hour, 30mph temporary speed restriction and single lane working controlled by temporary traffic signals, will be in force throughout the scheme on the Selston to Kirkby road bridge. Safe pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
There will also be some full carriageway closures overnight near the start and at the end of the works for the installation and removal of temporary safety barriers, and for the laying of the new road surface course. Clearly signed diversions will be in place.
Highway Agency Project Sponsor, Alan Darby, said: "This project is essential to maintain and extend the life of the bridge. The work will not affect motorway traffic, but we do urge drivers travelling between Selston and Kirkby to allow extra time for their journeys."
During the closures drivers wishing to travel between Selston and Kirkby during the closures will be directed north along Common Side to Beaufit Lane, right onto the B6019 Pinxton Green, continuing onto Kirkby Lane and Pinxton Lane to rejoin the B6018. Drivers travelling in the opposite direction will follow these directions in reverse.
