A bridge in the centre of Glasgow has been closed to traffic after one of its support cables snapped and landed on the carriageway.
Police closed the Clyde Arc Bridge - which connects Finnieston with Kinning Park - after the incident occurred on Monday evening.
There were no reported injuries.
Civil engineering contractor Edmund Nutall Ltd - who acted as main contractors on the bridge - are currently investigating the incident along with engineering consultants Halcrow and Glasgow City Council. It is believed the bridge could be closed to traffic for several weeks.
In an official statement, Nutall said: "We have together with our client Glasgow City Council and our designer Halcrow begun an in-depth investigation into the cause of last night's incident on the Clyde Arc.
"At this stage it is too early to predict any outcome and we can only reiterate Glasgow City Council's earlier statement to confirm that we believe that the integrity of the bridge is unaffected. The bridge has been designed to allow for the removal of one hanger at a time for repair and maintenance purposes."
Witnesses reported hearing a loud "snap" from the structure known as the "Squinty Bridge". It was the first new road bridge over the river to be built since 1969, and was open to traffic in September 2006 as part of a project to regenerate the banks of the Clyde.
Costing £20.3m, the bridge spans 140 metres.
The structure is a tied arch design, which carries four lanes, one in each direction. It also has pedestrian and cycle paths.
