£1.2m For Grassroots Sport
Funding of £1.2 million is to be invested in grassroots sports facilities in West Lothian.
Community-led projects in Fauldhouse and Broxburn will benefit from the funding, through sportscotland, to support the development of grassroots sport, increase participation and improve health and wellbeing across West Lothian.
Fauldhouse Community Campus will receive £700,000 towards new changing facilities and the modernisation of its swimming pool and sports hall. Broxburn United Sports Club will receive £500,000 towards a 10-team changing room pavilion and a third generation (3G) synthetic pitch. The new facilities will provide a hub for community sports activity.
Communities and Sports Minister Stewart Maxwell today visited existing facilities at Fauldhouse Community Centre to meet young people who will benefit from this major investment in local sport.
Mr Maxwell said: "This £1.2 million investment will enable more people across West Lothian to access quality state-of-the-art facilities, where they can enjoy the benefits of exercise and sport."
Fauldhouse Community Campus is a new community partnership complex offering a range of health, well-being and leisure services on one centrally located site. It will replace Fauldhouse Community Education Centre when it opens in 2008/09.
The 700,000 pound investment in Fauldhouse will assist with the construction of new changing facilities as well as the extensive refurbishment of the existing 1970s three court sports hall and the upgrade of the 25m five lane swimming pool. Also planned is the creation of a new fitness suite and dance studio and two new changing rooms which will serve the existing sports ground at the site.
The investment of 500,000 pounds in Broxburn United Sports Club (BUSC) will help provide a 10-team changing room pavilion and a third generation (3G) synthetic pitch at Albyn Park in the town. The new pavilion will also house a clubroom, physio room, officials room, office and storage space. BUSC was formed in 2000 to serve as one community club for the Broxburn area.
Broxburn United has over 700 members representing local clubs including Broxburn Athletic, Broxburn Colts, Buchan Bowling Club, Uphall Station Amateurs and Uphall Diamonds.
