Mace Appointed In Tate Development
Consultancy and construction firm Mace has been appointed as construction engineers on the new development at Tate Modern.
The new extension, designed by architects, Herzog & de Meuron, will create a new building adjoining Tate Modern to the south, increasing the buildings size by 60% and adding approximately 21,000 square metres of new space.
Alex Beard, Deputy Director of Tate, commented: "We are delighted with the appointments to the Transforming Tate Modern project team. We now have a world-class team in place and with the recent funding announcement from Government, we are moving successfully into a new phase for the project.
Gareth Lewis, Mace Group board director responsible for construction, added: "We are delighted to have been confirmed as the construction manager for the Tate Modern extension project. We have a long and successful history with Tate and with the regeneration of the Southbank, which makes this appointment very special to us. It is a fantastic design and we are delighted to be part of such an exciting and challenging project."
