JELD-WEN Achieves Environmental Standard

JELD-WEN's door manufacturing site in Penrith, Cumbria, is celebrating achieving the prestigious ISO14001 accreditation, the international standard for environmental performance.

The award gives a clear indication that the company adheres to strict environmental policies and procedures in all areas of its business, which includes recycling and the reduction of waste, energy usage and emissions.

"Achieving IS014001 involved our entire workforce," explains Ray Simpson, General Manager at JELD-WEN's facility in Cumbria. "Being located so close to the Lake District national park we have always been conscious of how important it is to preserve the natural environment. Recycling and minimizing waste are vitally important throughout our business, from the offices, through manufacturing to packaging and the distribution of our products. We are delighted to have achieved the environmental standard, which is testament to the hard work and efforts of all our employees."

JELD-WEN's Penrith site manufactures a wide range of internal and external doors used for new build and refurbishment projects across the UK and Ireland, the ISO14001 environmental management standard will help the company develop its business with customers in the housing sector and retail markets in meeting their sustainability requirements.

The environmental standard ISO14001 covers everything from energy consumption in the factory to obtaining materials from a sustainable source to recycling plastics and paper waste in the offices. JELD-WEN will be audited on a regular basis as part of its commitment to continual improvement in meeting its environmental performance targets.

Ray Simpson explains: "Our goal was to reduce our impact on the environment by focusing on sustainable methods of running our business. Achieving ISO14001 not only demonstrates our responsibility to the customer but also shows our commitment to the environment locally and from a global perspective."

At a time when sustainability and environmental issues are of increasing importance achieving this accreditation demonstrates JELD-WEN's commitment to good environmental policies and practices.
