Derelict Riverside Land To Be Transformed
A £2.7m makeover for derelict land surrounding the site of Glasgow's new Riverside Transport Museum has been approved by the city council’s Executive Committee.
The area, at Pointhouse Quay in Partick, which also takes in a public slipway for river access, a public square and approach to a new pedestrian bridge, covers around 17 acres, not including the actual Riverside Transport Museum building.
The land on the north bank of the River Clyde, adjacent to the River Kelvin, has been sympathetically designed to accentuate the new Transport Museum, a key component of the city's waterfront regeneration.
Councillor George Ryan, Executive Member for Development and Regeneration, said: "The quality of design of the Glasgow Harbour development is raising the bar for projects of this scale and we must make sure that its plans are of the same high standard.
"Negotiations with Glasgow Harbour partners on how to landscape the area have been ongoing for some time to ensure different projects were fully integrated with each other."
Mr Ryan concluded: "The Council's landscaping scheme for Pointhouse is really the icing on the cake to bring all the individual developments together a first class visitor experience which makes the most of the natural environment and river access."
