Countdown To Bowls Stadium Completion

Work on a major £1.5m international-standard indoor bowls stadium is nearing completion.

The bowls carpet at the Landore stadium will soon be laid down as decorative and internal preparations reach their final stages.

The Swansea Council stadium at Beaufort Road in Plasmarl will boast six rinks capable of hosting national and international events as well as function facilities and a bar.

Access into the stadium at the former BSC Sportsground has been remodelled and the new facility will offer room for up to five coaches to park as well as eight disabled car parking spaces along with ample car parking facilities for the bowlers.

External lighting and CCTV cameras will be installed as security measures.

The World Indoor Singles and Mixed Pairs Championship is coming to the Landore facility from 16 April 20 to April and will feature competitors from as far afield as Malaysia and South Africa.

Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Cllr Gerald Clement, said: "The countdown is now very much on until another top leisure venue opens its doors in Swansea.

"This facility will be one of the best of its kind in the country that will play host to international-standard competitions and will welcome some of the best bowlers on the planet.

"It's another terrific sports complex for the people of Swansea to enjoy that will also open up opportunities for exhibitions and functions."

Swansea Council worked very closely on the project with the Swansea Indoor Bowls Club.
