Big BIG Buildings In Focus For Five

Five has commissioned Windfall Films to produce two major engineering series.

'Big, Bigger, Biggest' is a new series that uses ground-breaking CGI animation to explore the engineering inventions that have allowed buildings to grow in size and scale, whilst the third series 'Monster Moves' follows the daredevil exploits of engineers who relocate entire buildings.

Big, Bigger, Biggest reveals the secrets of record-breaking superstructures focusing on skyscrapers, bridges, aircraft carriers and airports.

The four, hour-long programmes go behind-the-scenes at the controversial construction of Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5; explores the colossal construction of the tallest man-made structure on earth, the Burj Dubai; examines the technological breakthroughs that led to the development of the longest suspension bridge in the world, Japan's Akashi Kaikyo Bridge and the creation of the world's biggest aircraft carrier, the USS Nimitz.

Each film consists of 50% CGI animation. Landmark structures bend, twist, grow, move and transform in shape to illustrate how they have evolved in size and scale.

'Monster Moves' consists of six hour-long programmes, charting some of the most daring and long-distance relocation projects ever attempted.

To mark the 40th anniversary of the move, the series begins with a special edition revealing how Egypt's Abu Simbel Temples were moved in the 1960s to escape the rising waters of the River Nile.

By creating a replica statue of Ramasses' head and attempting to move it, programme makers are able to demonstrate the scale of this mammoth relocation project.

The series includes the stories of remarkable rescue missions. From hauling a 500 tonne, 90ft tall lighthouse away from the edge a crumbling cliff to the relocation of a Swedish town falling into a mineshaft.

Windfall Films, Creator and Series Producer, Carlo Massarella said: "We're delighted to be continuing our successful relationship with five. Monster Moves and Big, Bigger, Biggest were hugely ambitious projects and we at Windfall relished the opportunity to draw on our experience and expertise to bring these to the screen."

Monster Moves 3 is a Windfall Films/Cineflix Co-production for Discovery Canada, Five and NGCI (National Geographic Channels International.

Big, Bigger, Biggest is a production Windfall Films production for National Geographic and Five.
