To enable the industry to meet the new requirements of the 17th Edition, the Electrical Contractors' Association has published a comprehensive, user-friendly book for electrical contractors, apprentices, designers and installers alike.
Simply laid out using a series of clear tables and diagrams, 'Guide to the Wiring Regulations BS7671: 2008' addresses all areas of the new requirements in straightforward terms.
David Pollock, Group Chief Executive Officer at the ECA, said: "We canvassed our members and, owing to enormous demand, wrote this book with the specific aim of helping industry professionals comply with the new regulations. Written by ECA experts who were instrumental in the development of the revised regulations, this is an authoritative and accessible guide that illustrates the changes and provides real solutions to the problems that can often occur with practical interpretation."
To be read in conjunction with the Regulations, the guide talks the reader through each step of the installation process, from design through to completion and certification. Topic-led chapters provide extensive advice on primary areas of concern, including circuit design, selection and erection, wiring systems, earthing and bonding.
The guide goes on to explore the additional requirements of the British Standard for protection against voltage disturbances and implementation of measures against electromagnetic influences (EMC) and elaborates on the alterations to inspection and testing requirements.
It features practical information on the new special locations included in the 17th Edition, particularly exhibitions, shows and stands, floor and ceiling heating systems, mobile or transportable units and photovoltaic power systems. It also highlights the changes made to existing special locations, including bathrooms, swimming pools, agricultural and horticultural premises and caravan or camping parks.
