First Scottish 'Eco-Town' Proposals Unveiled
Developers have announced detailed plans for the first 'eco-town' in Fife, Scotland.
Hamilton-based Banks Developments hopes to construct a 1,200-acre site at Cardenden with up to 5,000 new wooden eco-homes as well as schools and sports facilities. One thousand of which would be affordable housing.
The homes will be a mix of terraced, semi-detached, detached and apartments, the developer has revealed.
An initial outline of the scheme had been produced last year, however MSPs and senior policymakers saw more in-depth proposals at the launch of a report in Edinburgh.
New proposals of the scheme were shown at a special launch in My Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh.
Colin Anderson, Banks' Managing Director, said: "The proposals we are putting forward for Cardenden will set new standards in the delivery of zero carbon developments in Scotland.
"Sustainable, high-quality communities such as this will make a significant contribution to creating the prosperous and low-carbon Scottish economy that is the country’s stated future ambition."
A series of protests have taken place, objecting to the latest example of "greenwashing" – where large-scale housing programmes are approved because they have 'green features' despite widespread opposition.
Banks Developments have provided full details of the project along with key delivery partner Scottish and Southern Energy and Arkitema, Denmark’s leading architects who specialise in sustainable communities.
