New Guidance For Homeowner Extensions

Planners in Chorley have unveiled new guidance for homeowners across the borough that would like to improve or extend residential property.

Following public consultation, Chorley Council's Householder Design Guidance Supplementary Planning Document is now available to help and guide residents with extensions or alterations to their property.

The guidance will help local people by ensuring any alterations to residential property across the borough are in keeping with the character and appearance of the property, the surrounding landscape and streetscape and will not affect the wider community and the environment.

Councillor Peter Malpas, Executive Member for Economic Development and Regeneration said: "The guidance is a great tool for anyone who is considering adding an extension to their property or doing any major alterations. It will help them to understand what they can and cannot do in line with planning policies and encourages them to think carefully about the design of their house. It will basically save them time and money further down the line by ensuring they get it right at the design stage."

Paper copies of the guidance can be obtained from the Council's offices in Union Street, and can be viewed at Chorley Town Hall, local libraries or post offices in villages that don't have a library.
