Four developments by one of the country's leading developers, CALA Homes, have been short-listed in the prestigious Homes for Scotland Quality Awards.
Grandholm Village, Aberdeen; Canniesburn in Bearsden, Glasgow (a joint venture with Miller Homes) and two East Lothian developments, Briery Meadow in Haddington and Orchard Lane in Dirleton, have been recognised by the industry-led annual competition which this year is based on the theme 'Designing Places' following the Scottish Government's place-making agenda.
All developments have been singled out for delivering exemplary 'new homes which form part of high quality and sustainable communities'.
Both Grandholm Village and Canniesburn have been short-listed in the Urban Large category. Grandholm Village was Scotland's first contemporary urban village. Centring on the multi million pound restoration of Grandholm Mill, Grandholm Village, which is now sold out, is now a thriving mixed use development featuring a rich variety of homes, restaurant and commercial accommodation. Canniesburn also features a striking and sensitive refurbishment at its hub. Original art deco pavilions by renowned architect James Miller are complemented by a collection of townhouses and refurbished and newbuild apartments, duplexes and penthouses.
Both Briery Meadow (shortlisted in the Rural Large category) and Orchard Lane (in the Rural Small category) feature bespoke homes designed to complement the East Lothian architectural vernacular. Each home was built using time intensive traditional construction techniques and traditional materials.
The short-listed entries will be judged by an independent panel headed by Scotland’s Chief Planner Jim Mackinnon.
