The Welsh Assembly Government is now advertising for a contractor for its prestigious new office in Llandudno Junction.
The advertisement inviting interested companies to formally express an interest in developing the project has now been issued to the Official Journal of the European Union and the current timetable is to appoint a new contractor by this summer with the new office expected to be opened in Summer 2010.
This is a significant milestone following a short delay in the project whilst officials finalised the detailed scheme documentation and liaised with local authority planning officers. Whilst there have been a few weeks slippage, the design work undertaken at this stage will foreshorten the overall process of delivering a high quality, low carbon design office building at Llandudno Junction. A submission to Conwy County Borough Council for planning consent is expected shortly.
The aim is for the building to achieve a standard of 'Excellent' for sustainable development under the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM).
The new office will have floorspace of around 8800 square metres, accommodating up to 650 staff bringing together existing posts currently spread across the region as well as posts relocating from Cardiff and newly created positions.
Construction work on the Welsh Assembly Government’s new Aberystwyth office is progressing well since the contract with Carillion Construction Ltd was signed in September 2007 with the structural steel work-package now underway. The construction work is on target to be completed in Spring 2009 and following a period of internal fit-out, the office will open for business in Summer 2009.
