Roof Completed On £1.3m School Project

Work to improve a school in Gowerton, Swansea, reached new heights this week.

The roof has been completed on a new teaching block at Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr as part of a £1.3 million programme to improve facilities there.

The block will house seven new classrooms and the scheme includes a new sprinkler system and better car parking.

Two old buildings at the school have also been removed as part of the plan.

The project has been Welsh Assembly-funded and Swansea Council is confident the works will be complete this summer. Pupils will be taught in the new teaching block from September 2008.

As well as new facilities being introduced, the scheme will see improved car parking on site.

The project is being delivered by Swansea Council's Corporate Building Services and Education Departments.

Swansea Council Head of Corporate Building Services Martin Nicholls said: "It has been a complex project to deliver but the professionalism shown in its management and the close working relationship that has developed with the school has ensured that it will be successfully delivered and this is a tribute to all those involved."
