Highway Resurfacing In Wales Planned

Construction News Image
Essential road surfacing works are being carried out near Llantrisant, Wales, as part of the Council's ongoing commitment to improving highways throughout the county borough.

The latest stretch of carriageway to undergo major improvements is on the A4119 on the approach from Llantrisant Business Park uphill towards Coedely.

Surfacing works will be carried out on 2 June during this period delays are expected.

Road markings, incorporating a new section of double white (no overtaking) centerline will be replaced a few days after the surfacing and solar powered LED roadstuds will be installed on the nights of 9 and 10 June.

The new road markings and roadstud layout, that has been designed in close consultation with the police, will improve the safety of the road. This will be the first time that these new innovative road studs to guide drivers at night have been used in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

This is the latest highway scheme to undergo major maintenance work following a recent programme of improvements to the main roads in the County Borough.

It also follows on from the Council's cash injection of £2.1 million during 2007/8 to improve major highways.

The Council's Cabinet Member for Transport and Customer Care Cllr Andrew Morgan said: "The work recently undertaken on main roads throughout the county borough is greatly appreciated by residents and commuters who use them on an almost daily basis.

"The latest scheme to improve the A4119 will also be of major benefit to road users and although it may initially cause some disruption we hope motorists will be patient and understanding as the ongoing works progress.

"The Council is improving the safety of road users and the revised road marking layout and the use of innovative high visibility solar powered roadstuds will have significant road safety benefits at this location.

"The Council has made a promise to invest and improve our main highway network and this is yet another demonstration of us honouring this commitment."
