The skyline of Cardiff City Centre is changing, and Miller Construction's Major Projects Unit held a topping out ceremony at the £30m Meridian Gate project in Cardiff to mark the structural completion of the 22-storey, 250,000 sq ft mixed-use development.
The development for Imperial Properties which is due for completion in December this year will create prime hotel and residential accommodation in the heart of the city.
Kevin Dickson, Area Director, Miller Construction, said: "This is a complex city centre development and we are pleased to be able to complete the structure today.
"Meridian Gate is progressing well and the build is on programme. The hotel, which forms a major part of the development, is currently one of the tallest buildings in Cardiff and is set to become an iconic landmark on the City Centre skyline.
"The completion of the main structure now allows us to progress with the remaining cladding works, and the internal fit out for both the hotel and the apartments."
Meridian Gate comprises a 215-bedroom Radisson Hotel and 118 private residential apartments with basement car-parking.
Steve Baker, Project Manager, Helios on behalf of Imperial Properties, said: "Today's topping out ceremony marks a huge milestone in the delivery of Meridian Gate. We are delighted that Radisson has taken the hotel element of the project which sees the addition of new four-star accommodation in the city centre. The residential aspect of the project is also to the highest standard and has been sold off plan to Delph properties."
Gordon Kew, Major Projects Director, Miller Construction, said: "This is our second job for our client at Meridian Gate, and we are delighted with the progress being made. We are establishing a strong presence in South Wales due to our involvement in such high profile schemes as Meridian Gate and the Morfa Retail Centre in Swansea."
Miller Construction is also undertaking the Broad Quay development in Bristol on behalf of the same client.
