East Midlands Companies Winning London 2012 Business Benefits

Construction News Image
Twenty seven East Midlands companies and organisations have already won work supplying the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), 11 of them small and medium (SMEs) size, and many more have been supplying the ODA's contractors. The latest London 2012 business engagement figures published today also show that SMEs make up over 90% of the 1,000 companies from the East Midlands registered on the unique 'dating agency' which aims to match businesses with London 2012 related opportunities. Over 120 businesses have been automatically referred through CompeteFor to the local Business Link for business improvement support.

The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) and London Organising Committee (LOCOG) expect to allocate over £6bn of work as part of an estimated 75,000 future business opportunities covering direct contractors and their supply chains over the coming years.

East Midlands companies that have been working directly with the ODA include Aggregate Industries of Coalville, Leicestershire, which is the sole provider of all the aggregate materials such as sand, gravel, crushed stone and recycled concrete, needed for the construction of the venues and infrastructure for the Olympic Park.

Other regional businesses that have provided services include Golder Associates of Nottingham, which has undertaken contaminated land assessments for potential whitewater canoeing sites, and the Plain English Campaign in High Peak, which is working with the ODA to ensure that documents are written in a crystal clear way.

Many more local companies have been supplying the ODA's contractors including GTS Cadbuild from Loughborough, which produced the software (STRAP) used by the consulting engineers to design the main stadium.
