E.ON Gives Community Centre £15,000 Grant

Construction News Image
Energy company E.ON has given a £15,000 grant under its SOURCE community initiative to Carno Community Centre towards the cost of replacing its old oil boiler with a new, greener wood pellet burner.

As well as providing heating and hot water, the centre wants to use the boiler to raise awareness of energy and the environment and the use of wood as a fuel to reduce carbon emissions among its users.

Tony Jenkin Jones, Community Relations Executive with E.ON, said: "We know there are plenty of local groups that want to go green by reducing carbon emissions from community buildings, and we're keen to help them contribute to the fight against climate change in this way."

The pellet boiler will be carbon neutral, and is expected to save the emission of around 16 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year. It will also be made available as a teaching aid to the local primary school and other groups.

Alan Humphreys, the Centre Administrator, said: "With E.ON's help, we're delighted to have been given the opportunity to develop an exciting project which has allowed the Centre to take advantage of modern technology, while at the same time helping us to reduce our impact on the environment.''
