CDE have been confirmed as sponsors of Showcase - the UK quarry industry's annual gathering. The event, which takes place on 3 July in the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London will be hosted this year by Channel 4 broadcaster, Krishnan Guru-Murthy.
The Quarry Products Association (QPA) Showcase is the main industry event of the year and brings together all the main players in the industry to discuss key issues and celebrate the considerable achievements of the industry in the last 12 months.
The scope of this year's event will be wide ranging with some of the key issues to be discussed including the 2012 Olympics in London, the industry wide carbon reduction commitment, the growing demand for recycled aggregates and health & safety in the industry.
"We are delighted to be supporting this important event," explains Peter Craven from CDE. "We fully recognise the requirement for the quarry industry in the UK to work together to ensure its continued growth. The industry literally builds the foundations of our country and a strong and vibrant industry is essential for all as it gives us places to live, to work and provides us with the infrastructure we all use every day."
Of the critical issues to be discussed at Showcase 2008, there are several which are of particular relevance to CDE. The various Olympic construction and infrastructure projects are fuelling a growing demand for aggregates in London and South East England, and CDE have been working extensively in this area in recent times.
"A number of plants we have recently installed in the London area will be supplying material to Olympic projects explains CDE's General Manager for the UK, Terry Ashby. "These have included a number of construction and demolition waste recycling plants that we have won due to our considerable experience in this area."
As with industry as a whole, the quarry industry is placing a large emphasis on reducing the carbon footprint of the industry and improving resource efficiency. This is another area where CDE have placed considerable effort in recent years.
"We have stolen a march on the industry in terms of our focus on sustainability” said Terry Ashby. "The Quarry Products Association is placing a large amount of time and effort on the promotion of a sustainability agenda at the minute and we are pleased to say that it is something that we will continue to support wholeheartedly.
"Over the last 5-7 years we have been developing our systems to a point where we can now confidently say that we offer the highest levels of resource efficiency in relation to a variety of issues including water consumption, power use and wear parts."
