More than 900 children in eight schools across Birmingham have enjoyed taking part in a play designed to teach them how to save energy and reduce their carbon footprint.

Called 'the Town of Total Darkness tour', the play involves crime detectives Sherlock Holmes and Watts-on being transported into schools via Doctor Who's Tardis, in order to teach schoolchildren how to save energy after they discover the world's lights have gone out.


The tour is part of E.ON's Energy Experience, which is an engaging educational resource that helps teach 5-16 year olds about energy.

The programme - which has an interactive website with supporting classroom packs - helps young people to understand the different sources of energy we use, the merits of each, and what their choices will mean locally, nationally and globally.

So far over 2,000 classroom packs have been requested by primary and secondary schools across Birmingham.

Billie Holland, Community Relations Executive with E.ON, said: "The Energy Experience programme supports the science and geography curricula in England, Scotland and Wales, and it doesn't just doesn't tell young people about energy, it enables them to experience it."
