Tiled Hall Café Receives Another Award

Construction News Image
Architects from Leeds City Council have received two honours for their work on the magnificent Tiled Hall Café at the International Green Apple Awards 2008.

The project was named Green Champion 2008 in the Built Environment category at the awards ceremony at the Tower of London.

The International Green Apple awards are presented to anyone from land owners to building contractors, local authorities, developers, architects and home builders for environmental endeavour.

The Green Champion 2008 award is the highest accolade available at the awards and to win the award the winning project had to demonstrate that they had made a positive contribution to our built environment, or helped to preserve the country's architectural heritage.

Tony Scott, from the Strategic Design Alliance (SDA), a partnership between Leeds City Council's in-house architectural design services and international consultant Jacobs Architecture, was presented with the awards by Professor David Bellamy OBE.

The Tiled Hall also received a gold award in the community use category.

Councillor Andrew Carter, executive board member responsible for City Development, said: "This is the first time that one of the SDA's projects has received a Green Champion award and we are delighted that the style and quality of the Tiled Hall Café has once again been recognised.

"The SDA team worked very hard to conserve the unique beauty of the Tiled Hall and it is now a magnificent facility for the whole city to be proud of."

The Tiled Hall Café also won an award at the Leeds Architecture Awards and is currently short-listed in the RIBA White Rose Awards and the SCALA Civic Building of the Year Awards, the results of which will be announced later this year.
