Marley Waterproofing has supplied roofing felt to ecology specialist Thomson Ecology to help safely move and monitor protected reptiles from construction sites across the UK before building work commences.
During the early stages of gaining planning permission an initial reptile survey must be undertaken. If reptiles are found on the proposed site then they are moved to an alternative location which offers the same natural habitat as their existing home.
Roofing felt is ideal for moving and monitoring reptiles.
When the felt is placed out in the sun, it warms up much quicker than its surroundings and creates a warm and comfortable environment for the reptiles. This is important because reptiles are cold blooded species and naturally try to find warm places to hide, which the roofing felt provides.
Beth Barber, Marketing manager at Marley Waterproofing explains: "Biodiversity is very important and is a factor which has to be taken into consideration at the design stage of any construction project. We were pleased to assist Thomson Ecology with its translocation work and were able to help them with the materials required."
Nancy Thomson, Managing Director at Thomson Ecology added: "Moving reptiles can be a difficult procedure however, roofing felt makes the process quicker and less distressing for the reptiles. We would like to thank the Marley Waterproofing team for its help with our project."
