Costain Scoops £120m Contract

Costain has announced it has been awarded a £120 million contract by Swiss plant construction company Von Roll Inova to design and construct the civil engineering and building of the Riverside Resource Recovery facility at Belvedere in south-east London.

Construction work on the main site started in July this year. Costain is providing design, site infrastructure and building works for the main building, jetties, roads and offices.

Overall investment in the project is seen at £350 million. The completed facility will be able to process up to 585,000 tonnes of London’s residual waste from 2011 and will be able to generate electricity for 66,000 homes.

The new facility will enable the majority of the waste to be transported by river in place of upwards of approximately 100,000 lorry trips per annum.
