Dry Run For Welsh Athletes

As Great Britain continues to celebrate its achievements in the 2008 Olympics, the Welsh Institute of Sport is enjoying an award of a different kind - a BBA approved built-up roof system supplied by Liquid Plastics and installed by Quality Assured Contractors Central Roofing.

HLN Architects called in Liquid Plastics to carry out over 20 core samples of the sport facility's roof, which helped to identify the existing roof build-up and areas of failure. In approximately 10% of the roof there were signs of softness under-foot indicating that dampness had penetrated the existing felt system.

Ian Jordan from HLN Architects said: "After having explored a number of products we chose Liquid Plastics due to its suitability for this complex re roofing project. We needed a solution that met the required specification, that was flexible to lay, and that was capable of being applied in phases to suit the overall programme. Liquid Plastics achieved this without issue and will certainly be specified for future projects."

Liquid Plastics' Cold Fusion Bonded Built-Up Roof System was specified for the project and applied by one of Liquid Plastics' Quality Assured Contractors - Central Roofing.

4,000m² of Cold Fusion Bonded Built-Up Roof System was applied directly over the existing felt, with just 300m² of failed material needing to be stripped back. The new system is made up of a Vapour Control Layer, Decotherm insulation, a Carrier Membrane, and a Decothane Gamma 20 waterproof 'cap sheet'. Each part is bonded using Liquid Plastics’ revolutionary cold fusion adhesive – Decostik® - which eliminates the need for any heat or naked flame on the roof.
