The 2008 Constructing Excellence awards in the East Midlands rewarded many regional landmark buildings and recognised the huge efforts and contributions made by those championing innovation in the industry. Turner & Townsend was commended for its Project Management of the Heart of the National Forest Youth Hostel which was the winner of the 'Legacy Award for Sustainability', in the face of tough competition.
Presented by John Freeman, Chairman of the Midlands TUC, the National Forest Youth Hostel was lauded as an exemplar in sustainable design; minimising environmental impact through its use of specific building products and innovative systems to reduce its environmental impact.
The on-going commitment to the East Midlands Built environment is integral to the future social and economic wealth of the region; ensuring that skills are developed and retained locally by delivering an environment to which new businesses wish to locate and where communities wish to grow.
International construction and management consultant, Turner & Townsend has a particular vested interest in the region, having relocated to larger premises at Lock House, in the heart of the city in September 2008.
Indeed, Turner & Townsend is heavily invested in projects in the centre of Nottingham, Derby and Leicester; particularly within the infrastructure and Education sectors with on-going advisory roles to Nottingham City Council on the Tram development and the Learning and Skills Council with a growing portfolio of further education development work including Bilborough and Stephenson Colleges, as well as the on-going programme at Nottingham Trent University.
Peter Orton, Director of the Nottingham office, said: "I am immensely proud of the achievements made by regional staff; who all work so tirelessly, and so professionally to deliver an excellent service to all of our clients. The construction industry is operating in an extremely tough environment at the moment, but Turner & Townsend is thriving and striving to achieve innovation and excellence in all that we do."
