FMB Signs Up To 2012 Construction Commitments
The Federation of Master Builders (FMB) has formally signed up to the 2012 Construction Commitments.
The President, Ron Storer and Director General, Richard Diment signed the commitments which aim to ensure that the construction industry delivers high quality projects, safely and on time. These principles are a statement of intent from the industry on standards and best practice in construction. Although they are called the 2012 Construction Commitments in reference to the Olympics, they are intended for the whole industry, not just the contractors working on the games.
Mr Diment, Director General of the FMB said: "We are delighted to sign up to the 2012 Construction Commitments, which are very close to the FMB’s principles. The FMB is lobbying for fairer procurements processes which includes awarding a substantial share of work to SMEs and also support the proposals to ensure fair and timely payment. The FMB promotes training to its members as a way of ensuring a continued supply of skilled workers for the building industry and has been instrumental in creating the Cross-Industry Construction Apprenticeships Task Force which is chaired by former FMB President, Geoff Lister. We also encourage sustainability in the industry and are leading the industry with our 'Building a Greener Britain' campaign. Health and Safety is one of the most important issues in the construction industry and one which the FMB takes extremely seriously; we continue to be active and influential in the CSCS and Constructing Better Health schemes. The FMB also encourages its members to ensure that their clients and designers are playing an active role in providing designs which are practical to build and maintain."
