The Construction Confederation (CC) has appointed Manus Adamson, Chairman of the Adamson Group, as its Executive Chairman.
He will take over the Chair of the CC from James Wates, together with some of the functions carried out by Stephen Ratcliffe who is stepping down as CC Chief Executive at the end of this year.
Mr Adamson's appointment will take effect in December 2008.
The CC will continue to represent its members on pan industry initiatives, including national pay and conditions negotiations through the Construction Industry Joint Council (CIJC).
Mr Adamson said: "The Construction Confederation is going through a period of inevitable realignment as industry representation settles into a new shape following the creation of the CBI Construction Council and the transformation of the MCG and NCF into the UK Contractors Group.
"Construction is a dynamic industry and it is to be expected that there will be changes from time to time in the way it is represented; I view these changes as an opportunity for the industry to emerge with a more powerful voice. It is essential the main employer organisations work together to achieve a strong, unified voice, to represent the many issues that effect all those from the wide ranging sections of our industry.
"Now, more than ever, as global economic uncertainty brings new challenges on a daily basis, construction needs to punch its weight in Whitehall, Westminster and Europe to ensure the well-being of our industry and all who work in it. I am confident that the Construction Confederation, and its component parts, will continue to play a leading role in meeting those challenges."
